It may also be possible with mod_rewrite, but I'm not sure.

$blog = parse_url($url);
$blog = explode(".", $blog['host']);
$blog = $blog[0];
And blog will give you the bit before the subdomain, including www

did you add that line of code into our virtual directory so we could create subdomains on the fly.
